• AYLA HUDSON - SHE/HER - LATE TEENS/EARLY 20S - College drop-out and aspiring true crime protagonist. Thinks this story's ending is fixed, and is fortunately about to be proven wrong. Snarky and brooding, but she's absolutely earned the right to be so. Not big on tea, but will drink it to hang out with her mother.
• GWEN HUDSON - SHE/HER - 40S/50S - Elementary school teacher and aspiring "cool mom." Thinks this story ended long ago, and is unfortunately about to be proven wrong. Pragmatic and driven, but should probably just talk to her daughter. Enjoys tea.
• OPHELIA - SHE/THEY - 40S/50S - Pro-human mermaid and aspiring aunt to Ayla. Wants to see this story through, for once. Comes off as mysterious and off-putting, but should probably just talk to... literally anyone. Normally doesn't care for tea, but will make an exception if Gwen makes it.
• JOHNNY DOE - HE/HIM - 30S - Bumbling cop and aspiring protagonist, he/him. Thinks this story's his, and is fortunately proven wrong at every turn. Really excited to be here. Wants to drink tea SO bad.
